Can Chinese Engineers Install Block Machines Middle East?

24 October 2026 · 6 min read

Quick answer

Yes, an erection and commissioning crew travels to the plant and stays until the acceptance test is passed. The work succeeds or fails on four buyer items prepared before arrival, which are the foundation poured to the general arrangement drawing, a power supply at the confirmed voltage, lifting capacity for the heaviest module, and water and compressed air at the marked points.

Can Chinese engineers install block machines, Middle East sites included, and will the crew stay until the first block passes? Yes. An erection and commissioning crew travels to the plant, works from the general arrangement drawing, and leaves only after a measured cycle and a mould change. What decides the date is not their skill. It is what the buyer has ready when they walk through the gate.

A 34 t vibration press does not become accurate because the fitters are experienced. It becomes accurate because the pad under it was poured to the drawing, cured for the full period, and left with anchor pockets where the drawing puts them. Most delays at this stage are not mechanical failures. They are a foundation poured a little high, a feeder cable that arrives with one phase reversed, or a crane hired for the machine weight rather than the heaviest module.

What has to be ready before the crew arrives?

Four items carry the date, and each belongs to the buyer. Each is cheap before the container lands and expensive after it. Two more are not on that list and still stop a start: the moulds, the pallet stack and a batch of the real mix, plus the operators released from other work for the whole commissioning period.

  • Foundation. Poured to the general arrangement drawing, cured, with anchor pockets and levelling pads left open. The drawing is issued before shipment for this reason. Cutting a pocket after the frame is on site means re-drilled anchors, and a re-drilled anchor holds less.
  • Power. A supply at the voltage and frequency confirmed in the offer, terminated at a main switch near the panel, at the connected capacity the machine needs. A QST1800 carries 104 kW installed, a QST1500 carries 69.1 kW, and the stacker adds 3.7 kW. A supply sized on the motor plates alone trips on the first full cycle.
  • Lifting. A crane or forklift with the reach and the capacity for the heaviest module, not the whole machine. The moulding host and the hydraulic station are the two lifts that decide the crane. Confirm the load chart at the radius you will really work at, and the ground the outriggers stand on.
  • Water and air. A water point and a compressed air line at the positions marked on the layout, at the flow and pressure named in the offer. The air line is not secondary, because clamps, pushers and the pallet magazine will not cycle a stroke without it.

The erection sequence, base frame to stacker

The crew works in a fixed order, and the order is why a machine ends up square. The base frame goes down first, on shims over the anchor pockets, levelled with a machinist's level in both directions. The frame is not grouted yet, because grout under an unlevelled frame locks the error in place.

Columns and the upper frame follow, then the moulding host, the hydraulic station and the vibration unit. The pallet feed, the pallet return and the delivery conveyor go in after the host, because their heights are set from the host, not from the floor. The stacker comes last in the mechanical sequence, aligned to the pallet line.

Anchors are drilled and set after the frame is positioned, not before. Setting them into a cured pad assumes the pad came out exactly as drawn, and it rarely does. Shims carry the frame while it is aligned, grout goes into the pockets once level is confirmed, and the nuts are torqued in sequence after it cures.

Power, phase rotation and the first start

A three phase supply with two phases swapped is the most common reason a first start goes wrong. The hydraulic pump runs backwards, pressure never builds, and on a pump without a rotation guard the damage is done in seconds. Check rotation at the motor before the coupling goes on, and mark the phases at the main switch.

The supply is sized on connected load, not on the largest motor. QST1800 carries 104 kW installed, QST1500 carries 69.1 kW, and the stacker adds 3.7 kW on either machine. Add the batching plant, the mixer, the compressor and the cuber, and the main breaker and cable change size. Give us the destination, the supply voltage and the frequency before the panel is built.

Two smaller items cause delay out of proportion to their cost. The PLC wants a supply not shared with welding equipment, and the machine wants an earth that is measured rather than assumed.

How is the mould aligned before the first block?

The mould is the part that touches the product, so it is aligned last and checked most. It drops into the guides on its frame, and the frame must sit square to the pallet before anything else is measured. A mould out of square shows up as a block heavy on one corner and thin on the opposite one, and no vibration setting hides it.

Then the tamper head, which must travel parallel to the mould face and stop at the same depth across the full pallet. Set it shallow on one side and block height varies across the board, the defect a buyer notices first in the yard. Check it with the head lowered and a straight edge across the mould.

The first-block trial follows and it uses the production mix. Dry cycles first to prove the sequence, then a full pallet, then a cure sample. A trial on a rich mix flatters the machine and says nothing about the mix you will sell.

What does the acceptance test actually measure?

Three measurements, taken in front of the buyer, decide acceptance. Cycle time is timed over a run of consecutive cycles and compared with the datasheet. QST1800 is quoted at 15 to 25 seconds, QST1500 at 15 to 23 seconds, the QSMT series at 13 to 18 seconds, and the QS-1200A cuber at 15 to 18 seconds per layer. Time a run, not one cycle, because a single cycle can be short and still be wrong.

Block height comes second, measured on a sample lift against the tolerance on your product drawing. Then the mould change, done by your own operators while the crew stands back. A change shown by the supplier's technician proves the technician can do it. A change done by your shift team proves the plant can. The report outlives the crew, so the readings matter more than the sentences around them.

The last check is the line rather than the machine. Run the batching plant, the mixer and the cuber together at the quoted rhythm for a full shift. Plants that pass the machine test often fail here, because the mixer and pallet feed were sized apart from the press. Keep a signed copy in the plant file, because the next technician will ask what the machine did on the day it was accepted.

  • As-built settings, including hydraulic pressure at the rated 31.5 MPa and the vibration parameters.
  • A cycle log from the acceptance run, with times written down.
  • Block height readings from the sample lift, each with the tolerance it was checked against.
  • A punch list of open items, each with an owner and a date.
  • A spare parts list naming the wear items, and training sign off.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Chinese crew come to my site and install the machine?

Yes. An erection and commissioning crew travels to the plant with the shipment and stays through the first start, the first-block trial and the acceptance run. Crew size and the schedule are written into the offer, because both follow the number of modules, the line length and whether a cuber is included. The dates and the headcount belong in that document, not in a general answer.

What does the buyer have to prepare before the crew arrives?

Four things, all on the buyer's side: the foundation poured and cured to the general arrangement drawing with anchor pockets open, a power supply at the voltage and frequency confirmed in the offer, a crane or forklift that lifts the heaviest module at the working radius, and water plus compressed air at the marked layout positions. Moulds, pallets and the production mix also belong on site.

How long does installation take?

The installation window is fixed in the offer rather than here, because it follows the number of modules, the line length and the curing system on the order. A single block machine on a prepared foundation is a shorter job than a full automatic line with a cuber and a packaging end. What moves the finish date most is site readiness, not the crew's pace.

What is measured at the acceptance test?

Cycle time over a run of consecutive cycles against the datasheet figure, block height on a sample lift against the tolerance on the product drawing, and a mould change performed by the buyer's own operators without help. The line then runs at the quoted rhythm for a full shift with batching, mixing and cubing together, and every reading goes into the commissioning report.

Does the crew train our operators?

Training runs alongside the erection, not after it, so the shift team has already handled the panel before the trial. Operators learn the cycle settings, the fault display, the daily checks and the mould change. The proof is the acceptance test, where your team changes the mould while the crew watches and does not touch the machine.
